WASHINGTON (LEX 18) — A Kentucky congressman has clapped back at President Donald Trump for comments he made that appeared to allude that a deceased Democratic representative was in hell.
Trump made comments Wednesday night during a rally in Michigan about Rep. Debbie Dingell that alluded that her deceased husband was "looking up."
According to multiple news outlets, Trump said that he gave the family the "A-plus treatment" after John Dingell died, and that the congresswoman, who now holds his seat in the U.S. House, told Trump during an emotional call following the funeral that her husband would have been "thrilled" by the respect shown for him and "he's looking down" on the ceremonies.
Trump added shortly after: "Maybe he's looking up. Maybe, but let's assume he's looking down."
John Yarmuth, the representative from Kentucky's 3rd Congressional District, tweeted Thursday morning: "It's moments like these that we are reminded that the president is not only a criminal, he is impuslively (sic) cruel and truly rotten to the core. Hell will be too good for him."
