LONDON, Ky. (LEX 18) — One suspect is in custody after a shooting on Potter Road in the Scaffold Cane community of Rockcastle County, Kentucky State Police said Tuesday.

Investigators said that George Henshaw, 42, of Mount Vernon, was having an ongoing verbal altercation with his step-mother, Lois Henshaw, 60,, also of Mount Vernon, when he retrieved a gun and fatally shot her.

"They had some kind of altercation," Kentucky State Police Trooper Scottie Pennington, said. "Not really a domestic, but maybe something that had been going on for a while and maybe just aggravating each other and picking. I think maybe the stepson, who is the suspect, kind of got fed up with it."

KSP said George Henshaw has confessed to the murder.

He is charged with first-degree murder, tampering with physical evidence and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He is being held in the Rockcastle County Detention Center.
