PIKE COUNTY, Ky. (MTN/LEX 18 News) — No charges will be filed after surveillance video and photos appeared to show a woman piling groceries on top of an infant in her shopping cart.

The Pike County sheriff's office opened an investigation after being sent photos of the incident that occurred at the the South Williamson Walmart on Wednesday night.

The woman was captured on surveillance video with an infant in a car seat. By the time she was done shopping, the carrier was covered in cans, boxes and other supplies. Police say they identified the woman and talked with her.

According to officials, the woman is a single mother with seven children and admitted making a mistake. Child Protective Services put the woman on a 36-90 day work plan in which they will make sure everything remains normal. They believe the items were stacked around the infant and not on top of the child.

The Pike County Sheriff's office told our news partners at Mountain Top News that they did not feel the need to "kick the woman while she was down."

Officers say until they see anything proving that she's not compliant with the "work plan," they believe she was just trying to provide for her children by buying groceries.
