LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Lexington police have charged a suspect with murder in a shooting outside of Fayette Mall Thursday night.

Jessin Stateman, 19, of Danville, is accused of shooting an unnamed victim who police said was found outside of the Cheesecake Factory with severe injuries at about 8 p.m. Thursday. The Fayette County Coroner's Office says the victim, 23-year-old Jermaine Barber, was taken to UK Medical Center where he died hours later.

Stateman was arrested at a nearby Walmart later Thursday evening and charged with murder. An arrest citation says Statemen fired "multiple shots from a pistol at the victim as they walked."

Investigators say the two were acquaintances who had agreed to meet outside the mall.

Stateman is lodged in the Fayette County Detention Center. According to court records, Stateman has only been charged with traffic offenses in the past as an adult.

An autopsy on Barber will be completed by the Frankfort office of the State Medical Examiner's Office. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time.
