PENDLETON COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — A Pendleton County Schools student died in a house fire Saturday morning, according to the district's post on Facebook.

The Pendleton County Sheriff's Office reports the student was 5 years old.

Chief deputy sheriff Marty Hart said the fire broke out in a duplex on Chapel Street in Falmouth.

He said the mother and her three children were at home sleeping when the fire started.

Hart said the mother helped rescue her 5-month-old baby and 8-year-old child by getting them out through a second-story window.

Hart reported that during the rescue, the 5-year-old became scared and ran back into the bedroom. By the time the mother finished getting her two other kids out of the duplex, the fire blocked her path to her 5-year-old.

This is a developing story. Please check back later for updates.
