(LEX 18) — A new poll shows Matt Bevin and Andy Beshear in a virtual tie just weeks ahead of the Kentucky gubernatorial election.
Mason-Dixon Polling & Strategy finds both men are tied at 46% among likely voters. Beshear, the state's current attorney general, is the Democratic candidate trying to unseat Bevin, the GOP incumbent governor.
The poll by the Florida-based company was conducted Oct. 10 to Oct. 13. The firm interviews 625 registered voters across the commonwealth by phone.
At the beginning of the year, the company had Beshear leading with 48% versus Bevin's 40%.
Looking at different regions, the poll showed Beshear ahead in the Louisville metro area as well as the Lexington Bluegrass area.
Bevin showed strength in the northern, eastern and western regions.
Bevin also showed Bevin leading among men, older voters and in rural regions.
Beshear polled better with women, younger voters and in metropolitan areas.
