MCCREARY COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — Kentucky State Police arrested a McCreary County man following the death of a 2-year-old girl.

Police responded just after 7:30 p.m. Sunday to a hospital in Pulaski County after a juvenile from McCreary County was brought in with life-threatening injuries.

The 2-year-old girl has been identified by the Fayette County Coroner's Office as Kimber Collins of Mt. Vernon, Kentucky.

Kimber was taken to the University of Kentucky Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead Monday night.

Police said an investigation found that 27-year-old Michael Cody Huff allegedly assaulted Kimber while she was in his care. LEX 18 has learned that Huff was the boyfriend of the victim's mother. The mother was at work and Kimber was left in Huff's care.

The Fayette County Coroner has confirmed that Kimber's cause of death was blunt force trauma.

Huff was charged with first-degree assault and was being held in the Leslie County Detention Center.
