LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Lexington police officials say they have identified the man in an apparent assault at a local store that is being investigated as a possible hate crime.
Officials released footage from surveillance video a video that showed the incident, which occurred Jan. 29 at the Walmart on New Circle Road.
An African American woman was briefly grabbed by the neck by a white man who told the victim he was making a noose.

In the video, a white man is seen approaching a black woman who worked at the store.
Police say the man "made motion with his hands, which he said was for making a noose. The man then lunged forward and briefly put both his hands around the victim's neck."
The Walmart released a statement Tuesday afternoon stating “We’re disturbed by this behavior and we’ve provided surveillance footage to law enforcement to assist in their investigation.”
Police are asking anyone with information about the suspect to call 859-258-3600. The investigation is still ongoing.
