LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Police are investigating after an infant was found deceased in Lexington's Winburn neighborhood.

The coroner says that 2-month-old Valen Hakizimana died from hyperthermia. Hyperthermia is caused by exposure to high temperatures. Lexington Police are now saying that detectives believe a relative unintentionally left the child in the car for several hours.

Sgt. Donnell Gordon with the Lexington Police Department says they are using this tragedy to warn other people.

"Our focus right now is just to put this out to the pubic, to remember your children are in the vehicle, it's still that time of year where the temperature is hot," said Gordon.

Glenn Davis, a man who lives near where the incident happened, told LEX 18: "I hope and pray this won't happen again, I know it will, but kids are innocent."

The incident is under investigation. No criminal charges have been placed at this time.

Officers were dispatched to the Barksdale Drive home around 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
