BATH COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — Officials in Bath County are frantically searching for a missing Amish child.

The child had been in a buggy with their family Wednesday afternoon around 4:30 p.m. when they were swept away by water.

LEX 18 has learned that four children are among the dead.

There were five children and one adult aboard the buggy when it overturned and all of them were swept into the water. Officials say they were attempting to cross a low water bridge in the area of Adams Road. We are told the adult is okay.

Central Kentucky Priest Father Jim Sichko told LEX 18 they were a family of 13: a father, mother and 11 children.

Father Jim coordinated with the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home near the Amish Community to pay for the funeral and burial expenses.

"Losing these children in this horrific crash accident has just got to be devastating and is devastating," said Father Jim. "From the moment I heard about this, I felt that it would be a beautiful 'connect' as far as Christian-Catholic reaching out, along with the Amish who also believe in God and Jesus, and all of this in some way to assist them in their time of need."

This is a developing story and will be updated when more information becomes available.
