1 confirmed dead in Knox County trooper-involved shooting, KSP reports

New details have emerged in the trooper-involved shooting that occurred on Monday in Knox County with the Kentucky State Police reporting that one person was fatally injured and ultimately died.

According to KSP on Tuesday, the preliminary investigation found that troopers arrived at 635 Hubbs Hollow Road to assist the Barbourville Police Department in executing an active arrest warrant on 44-year-old Steven M. Carter.

Upon arrival, a trooper found Carter behind a home with a firearm. KSP reported that the trooper commanded Carter to drop the firearm. During the encounter, KSP noted that the trooper fired his agency-issued firearm and fatally wounded Carter. He was pronounced dead by the Knox County Coroner.

The Kentucky State Police confirmed on Monday evening that an officer-involved shooting took place in Knox County.

KSP says that the shooting happened on Hubbs Hollow Road, and the critical incident response team is at the scene.
