FRANKFORT, Ky. (LEX 18) — Kentucky State Police is hosting an open house Thursday morning to boost recruiting.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Frankfort, KSP officials will be opening their doors and hoping visitors return.

At Thursday's event, potential recruits will have the chance to meet and speak with the staff members who do the training and inspect the barracks where they might stay.

The event includes a firearms training simulator, a look at criminal investigations units, special response team demonstrations and time with a canine.

According the Courier Journal, the KSP commissioner was please with the budget this year and directed some of the money toward recruiting amid growing demands. For instance, the newspaper says some troopers have been patrolling up to three counties on their own without local backup.

The recruiting open house will be held at the Kentucky State Police Academy on Coffee Tree Road in Frankfort.
