16-year-old killed in collision on I-64 westbound in Franklin County identified by coroner

The Franklin County Coroner's Office has identified the 16-year-old killed in the collision on I-64 westbound in Franklin County on Sunday.

According to the coroner, the 16-year-old has been identified as Joshua Ragland, who died from injuries sustained in the collision.

The coroner said that an autopsy will be performed.

Police asked that any witnesses of the crash contact KSP Post 12 at 502-227-2221.

UPDATE: Jan. 26 at 8:30 p.m.

Kentucky State Police Post 12 reported that preliminary investigations show that a 2017 Toyota Highlander was heading west on I-64 when it collided with a 2020 Toyota Corolla.

Reports said the Highlander left the road and hit a rock embankment. Officials said a 16-year-old passenger from Fayette County was ejected from the vehicle, sustaining life-threatening injuries.

The teen was taken to Frankfort Regional Medical Center, where they were pronounced dead by the Franklin County coroner.

KSP is handling the investigation.

As of 4:45 p.m., this section of roadway has now reopened.

One person has died following an early afternoon collision on I-64 westbound in Woodford County.

According to the Franklin County Coroner, that person, whose identity has not been released, died around 1 p.m. Sunday after being transported to a local hospital.

According to KYTC, the roadway remains closed and traffic is still stand-still.

UPDATE: Jan. 26 at 12:30 p.m.

This portion of roadway near the 59-mile marker is expected to be closed for approximately three hours, Kentucky Police said in a press release.

According to Public Information Officer and Trooper Josh Satterly, accident reconstruction is on scene.

According to KYTC, traffic is at a standstill on I-64 westbound near the 60-mile marker due to a collision.

The roadway is closed between Exit 65 and Exit 58, Woodford County Emergency Management reports.

Avoid the area if possible.
