GEORGETOWN, Ky. (LEX 18) — Coffee and lovers can now start their day with an extra shot of cuteness thanks to a new partnership between the Lexington and Scott County human societies, and two local businesses.
Central Purrk Cat Cafe, which is part coffee shop and part cat adoption center, held its grand opening on Thursday.
“We’re so excited to FINALLY be opening! We’ve worked really hard to make this a reality, and we’re ready to help these deserving cats find their forever home,” said Jennifer Hoskins, co-owner of Central Purrk.
Central Purrk has partnered with Midway Bakery for their baked goods and City Roastery for their coffee. Located in Georgetown, the cafe features a seperate "cat lounge" where visitors can pay $12 for an hour or $6 for 30 minutes with 10 adoptable cats looking for a forever home.
“This is such a great place to come if someone in your family is allergic and you want to get your cat fix, or if you’re a college student away from your animals back at home," Hoskins said. "You can come hang out with a bunch of cats.”
In addition to baked goods and coffee, the cat cafe will serve beer, wine, tea, Frappes and soda.
“While we do hope that people will come in to visit with the cats, even “non-cat people” can come into just the café part and have a fantastic iced coffee and a scone,” Hoskins said.
Adoptable cats from the Lexington Humane Society and Scott County Humane Society will be spayed or neutered, have updated vaccines and be microchipped. Visitors can adopt the same day they meet their new furry family member.
Central Purrk also plans to host special events like Yoga with Cats, Trivia Nights, Beer & Wine Tastings, and offer birthday or other private events.
