MILLERSBURG, Ky. (LEX 18) — Organizers of 'Christmas at Mustard Seed Hill' are determined to bring that same holiday feeling to visitors this year while also keeping them safe.
Friday marked opening night of the Bourbon County attraction for the season, where people can walk through light installations, tour historic buildings, view gingerbread houses and shop at the Artisan's Market.
Mustard Seed Hill President Shawn Burns said changes have been made for their third year of the event to keep people safe during the pandemic.
"I just hope everybody can be safe, wear masks and come out and see us," Burns said.
He's asked visitors to RSVP online before attending because they will have to turn people away if they reach capacity. The event also requires masks.
It's also an opportunity to support local vendors, who've been impacted by the pandemic.
"These market vendors have all lost their revenue for the year so if you can buy online or stop out here, that's great too," Burns said.
Patty Caswell, whose husband is a woodworker, joined him Friday to sell handmade gifts.
"This is our first craft show of the year because of COVID," she said.
Fortunately she said her husband don't depend on income from craft shows. But she was glad to find an event where they felt comfortable with safety measures taken.
"We're just excited to be out and enjoy a little bit of normalcy tonight," she said.
Burns said that lights are turned on each night at Mustard Seed Hill at 5 p.m. and will be up through January 2. He also encouraged people to stop by during the week, to avoid weekend crowds.
"You really don't have to come on Friday or Saturday to have a great experience," he said.
