BOURBON COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — Authorities have released the identity of the kayaker whose body was found near Stoner Creek in Bourbon County.
Charles R. Insko, 43, of Paris, was paddling with his family at about 6 p.m. Sunday when he went under water near a dam. The Bourbon County coroner said Insko was standing in roughly 3 feet of water when he was sucked under by a swift current.
Search teams from Bourbon, Scott, Harrison, Clark and Fayette counties used sonar and boats to perform a search on a 1,000-yard area of the creek. Insko's body was recovered just before noon Monday about 150 yards from where he disappeared in the creek.
The coroner says Insko had finished helping unload his family from their kayaks when a swift current pulled him under the water. Coroner Dee Gee Ison-Roe knows the family and says Insko was an experienced kayaker who practiced water safety. She calls the drowning a freak accident.
