Man arrested, facing several charges after barricade situation in Lexington: police

The Lexington Police Department reports that a man was arrested after barricading himself and a woman in a home on Potomac Drive on Thursday around 2:45 p.m.

According to police, 47-year-old Jason Fields was taken into custody after he allegedly "physically assaulted a woman" and then barricaded them in a home with a firearm.

Police say that Fields is lodged in the Fayette County Detention Center and facing the following charges:

  • first-degree wanton endangerment
  • second-degree assault (domestic violence)
  • fourth-degree assault- minor injury (domestic violence)
  • first-degree strangulation (domestic violence related)
  • five counts of first-degree wanton endangerment (police officer)

UPDATE: Oct. 24 at 10:00 p.m.

Lexington police say that the suspect was taken into custody at approximately 9:15 p.m., and the scene is safe.

UPDATE: Oct. 24 at 6:12 p.m.

Lexington Police report that they were dispatched to the 400 block of Potomac Drive around 2:4.5. p.m. for an armed subject, where an active police presence remains.

In a post to social media, LPD said that this is "still an active scene and investigation."

Some roads in the area have also been closed off for safety.

Traffic is being directed in the area by police, LPD said in a post to Facebook.

Drivers are encouraged to utilize alternative routes, if possible.
