LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WLWT) —Louisville police have arrested a former NBA player in connection with a fatal hit-and-run after he turned himself in.

WLWT reports that police say 40-year-old Anthony Grundy struck a woman June 7 as she tried to cross Dixie Highway near Ratcliffe Avenue.

The victim, a 59-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say Grundy knew he hit something but continued on to his girlfriend’s house. He also told police he didn’t have a license or insurance. The vehicle’s plates were also expired.

According to the News and Observer, Grundy was arrested in New York in October 2017 on suspicion of failure to appear in court on felony charges of habitual impaired driving, five misdemeanor counts of failing to appear in court and two misdemeanor counts of misdemeanor probation violation.

Grundy reportedly had three prior DWI charges when he was charged with habitual impaired driving after a February 2011 traffic stop.

Grundy was reportedly sentenced to two years in prison and was released in July 2018.

The Louisville native played basketball at North Carolina State and 12 games with the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks during the 2005-06 season. He later played professional basketball overseas before reportedly moving to Ghana.

Grundy faces a charge of leaving the scene of an accident and other charges.

The victim’s identity has not yet been released.
