LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)– LEX 18 is partnering with Habitat for Humanity this summer to build a home in our community.
Before the rain poured Wednesday, crew members were out at the home putting together the walls.
Mona Ashby was chosen to be the Habitat for Humanity homeowner.
“The main thing is that it’s mine, and it’s just something I’ve always wanted, and something I’ve always wanted to give my family, somewhere that they can come to and be at peace,” said Ashby.
LEX 18 and CHI St. Joseph Health are sponsoring Ashby’s House, now under construction. LEX 18 employees weren’t the only ones hard at work on the home Wednesday. As part of the program, homeowners have to put in 250 hours of Sweat Equity.
“It makes it all more worth it to me. Whatever sweat and aches and pains that I know I’ll probably feel later on, it will be worth it,” she said.
Ashby said it will also be worth it when she gets to see the look on her grandson’s faces when they finally get to see “Nana’s house.”
“My grandson is going through Walmart picking out posters like ‘I can put this in my room?’ ‘Yes, you can put that in your room once it’s built.’ So they’re really excited,” she said.
Habitat for Humanity spreads joy to families each year and LEX 18 is proud to be a part of it.
Unfortunately, work Wednesday afternoon was rained out, but LEX 18 employees will continue work Thursday.
