Heather French Henry Wins Democratic Nod For Secretary Of State Race

(AP/LEX 18) — Heather French Henry  has won the Democratic nomination for Kentucky Secretary of State.

An activist, veterans advocate and former Miss America, French Henry emerged victorious Tuesday in a field of Democratic candidates vying to to run for Secretary of State.

The winner will face a Republican in November. Current Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes, also a Democrat, was prevented from running again by term limits.

French Henry beat challengers Jason Belcher, Jason Griffith and Geoff Sebesta.

Aside from being the only Miss Kentucky to win the title of Miss America, French Henry is best known for her work for American veterans. In 2014, former Gov. Steve Beshear appointed her as Commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Veterans.

The four Republicans hoping to challenge French Henry are Michael Adams, Andrew English, Sephen Knipper and Carl Nett.
