HARRISON COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)– A Cynthiana police officer accused of sexting teenage girls has pleaded not guilty in court.
32-year-old John Philpot was arrested last month after allegedly exchanging sexually explicit images with a minor and was arrested back in April by his own colleagues.
According to an arrest citation, a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old say Philpot traded sexual talk with them over Snapchat and one said inappropriate pictures were exchanged.
Philpot’s attorney expressed doubt about the prosecution’s ability to prove the allegations.
“Snapchat is notorious for not keeping information and so in the past, I’ve sent them subpoenas, court orders, all of that stuff–it’s been to no avail,” said Greg Coulson.
Philpot has been suspended without pay and is in the Scott County Detention Center.
He’s scheduled to be back in court July 16.
John Philpot entered a “not guilty” plea this morning & will be back in court July 16th.
Until then, he’s not to consume alcohol, use weapons, have contact with victim(s) or their families, nor use social media. Per his lawyer: no contact with minors outside of family @LEX18News pic.twitter.com/rkOwDHVqsT— Claire Kopsky (@ClaireMKopsky) May 21, 2019
