LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) – Former UK and NFL quarterback, Jared Lorenzen, returned to Lexington this weekend.

He has teamed up with the “Now Let’s Get Fit” Foundation to help combat obesity through a health and wellness tour.

The story of Lorenzen’s battle with weight dates back to the day he was born.

“I came out of the womb big as can be. I was a 13 pound baby,” said Lorenzen.

After his football days were over, Lorenzen could easily admit that he wasn’t living the healthiest lifestyle.

“Always been bigger than everybody else. When I got out, I got way bigger than everyone else. That’s when I decided something needs to change. Kind of got into a funk of depression, whatever you want to call it, because you’re not really sure which way to turn,” said Lorenzen.

That’s why he got involved with several organizations, including “Now Let’s Get Fit.” Sunday’s event in Lexington had fitness classes, nutrition stations and more to promote health and wellness.

“Nowadays, kids they want to stay inside. They want to play on their Playstations, Fortnite. Playing outside isn’t a big thing. Sports just aren’t as big as they were when I was growing up,” said Lorenzen.

As he continues his own journey with weight loss, he’s taking advantage of his platform to help others.

“I just want people to know there is something better out there that will make you feel better about yourself and going out and being out,” said Lorenzen.
