ESTILL COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) – New details about the investigation into a former Estill County Spanish teacher are being made public.

Sherry Murphy is charged in connection with allegations that she knew her boyfriend, Torstein Torseteinson, was communicating with several juveniles for the purpose of having sex. Through additional investigation, police say Murphy is now facing more charges.

Murphy was initially arrested and charged with unlawful transaction with a minor, tampering with physical evidence, and failure to report child abuse. She was supposed to be taken to Three Forks Detention Center, but she is suffering from a back injury and could not be taken to jail. Murphy instead posted a $10,000 unsecured bond.

According to court documents, police say that Murphy physically struck a juvenile female in the mouth at her residence in Irvine. The allegations were investigated by social services and police say that the juvenile was forced to lie about the assault to investigators.

As such, Murphy is now charged with assault and intimidating a participant in the legal process in addition to her original charges.
