SCOTT COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)– Some little baseball players received a big donation Wednesday from Kroger and the University of Kentucky athletics program.

A $25,000 check from the Kroger Community Fields program was presented to Scott County Youth Baseball.

The league was able to use the money to renovate its tee-ball field for 4-to-6 year olds.

“We want to start them out in a safe and friendly environment,” said Drew Beckett, president of Scott County Youth Baseball. “I don’t know if it always was that until now, but we were able to replace all of our fencing around the field a brand new scoreboard that’s functional now and new backstop padding that makes it a safer place.”

This is an annual program and Kroger is welcoming applications for other leagues in need of assistance.
