LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — UK Healthcare’s Integrative Medicine and Health Clinic offers therapy in several integrative medicine practices.

The clinic opened about a year ago, and it offers massage, acupuncture, Jin Shin Jytsu, music and art therapy, and yoga. The goal is to increase the patient’s overall well-being.

Steven Konopka was diagnosed with mesothelioma and has been visiting the clinic for almost a year now.

“And it just came on pretty fast. You know, got a little pain in my side right here, and that was strange, and then that side started hurting a little bit more,” he said.

He has received typical cancer therapies, like radiation, and he found himself in pain.

“I guess some of the drugs have side effects, and I was having trouble with joints, muscles. And I think the massage really helped there,” said Konopka.

He started massage therapy and saw improvement with pain and tension. He said he just feels better.

Dr. Connie Jennings is proud of the work that they’re doing at UK Healthcare’s Integrative Medicine and Health Clinic.

“In a large sense, it helps patients have some control. Once a patient is admitted into the hospital, and you put the gown on, you’ve just kind of lost control,” she said.

She is certain that no matter the diagnosis, everyone can find some sort of healing.
