Hazmat Called After Three Staff Members Fell Ill

Posted

MANCHESTER, Ky. (LEX 18)– Three staff members at the Federal Correction Institution in Machester were taken to the hospital after they started feeling sick in the mailroom Monday.

Officials with the US Department of Justice Federal Bureau of Prisons says that local hazmat crews and a fire department were brought in as well. It’s not clear why the workers got sick, but authorities say tests will be done to see if a biological substance is present.

The mailroom was secured and the prison is currently under modified operations.
