Arrest Made In Perry County Shooting

PERRY COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)- State police say that an altercation led to a shooting Sunday afternoon. One person was taken to the hospital and another has been charged with assault.

Deputies with the Perry County Sheriff’s office responded to a reported shooting Sunday in the Willard community of Perry County.

State troopers say that an altercation had occurred between William Strong Jr.,23, and Lee Roy Colwell, 53, both of Willard.  During the altercation, police say Colwell shot Strong Jr. once in the abdomen before fleeing the scene.

Strong was taken to Hazard Appalachian Regional Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.  Lee Roy Colwell was located by Perry County deputies in the Willard area.  He was taken into custody without incident.

Colwell was charged with one count of Assault 1st Degree. He does not appear to be in jail at this time.
