(CNBC)- Papa John’s announced on Friday that basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal is their newest board member.
According to CNBC, O’Neal will serve as the board’s first African American director, as well as an investor in nine Papa John’s restaurants in Atlanta. He will also serve as an ambassador for the embattled pizza brand.
It’s been a tough year for the pizza chain. Sales tanked after a series of scandals involving founder John Schnatter.
O’Neal is a retired NBA player and owns several restaurant franchises.
