JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (LEX 18)- Coach John Calipari would not confirm whether or not PJ Washington will play against Wofford Saturday in the NCAA Tournament. His tone and demeanor indicated, however, that it was very unlikely.

The sophomore forward sprained his foot during the matchup with Tennessee at the SEC Tournament. He did not play Thursday night against Abilene Christian and was spotted wearing a hard cast on the bench.

Calipari stressed that PJ’s x-rays all came back negative but he said he was more concerned with being cautious to protect his player in the long-run.

He wouldn’t make an official statement on Washington’s status, saying he hadn’t ruled him out yet, but he wants to be careful to not injure one of his stars.

“I know this, he really wants to play. But I need him to be healthy,” said Calipari.
