ROWAN COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)– If you have plans to go camping, just keep in mind some of our popular lakes are still dealing with high water after record rain.
While many areas around Cave Run Lake are fine, others are still underwater, like the beach at Twin Knobbs Campground in Rowan County. In the tent area, picnic tables are waterlogged.
“Cave Run Lake is up 20 feet above summer pool, and at 20 feet above pool most of our boat ramps, all except three of them are not accessible,” said District Ranger Jon Kazmierski.
Many boat ramps are under water and there is a lot of natural debris floating in the lake or grounded on land. The popular Ziplo Campground in Bath County is closed because of even more damage.
“Damage to restroom buildings, water treatment and water facilities, we’ll have to access the damage fully when the waters recede,” said Kazmierski.
District rangers want to make sure that there are no trees or limbs that could fall on campers, so the recovery could take a while. Check out the US Forest Service‘s Facebook page to see what is opened and what is closed.
