LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Some downtown Lexington restaurants are seeing an increase in business thanks to the Boys’ Sweet Sixteen Basketball Tournament at Rupp Arena.

At Pies & Pints, lunch crowds have just about doubled this week, said server Mitchell Steinhauser.

“Now we get to make a little extra money and have a little more fun while we’re doing it,” he said.

At Sawyer’s Downtown Bar & Grill, a lot of preparations go into this week, according to owner, Jim Sawyer.

“In general we bump up the staff about 50 percent,” Sawyer said.

His wife even takes vacation from work to help out at the restaurant, he said.

“Everything that Rupp Arena does is the lifeblood of downtown,” he said. “Lexington would not have a downtown if not for Rupp Arena.”

Business is expected to be good this weekend as well as games continue.
