Police Agency In Pike County Arrests Punxsutawney Phil

COAL RUN, Ky. (LEX 18 )- The mayor of Coal Run in Pike County has collaborated with local law enforcement to arrest Punxsutawney Phil.

According to a fun post by Mayor Andrew Scott, the weather-predicting groundhog was wanted for “violation of Kentucky Revised Statutes, Chapters 194A and 523. Specifically, the warrant alleges Fraud and Unsworn Falsification.”

Scott says that the rodent was arrested and extradited on his Kentucky warrant.

“After an initial appearance earlier this evening before Judge Robert F. Wright, Mr. Phil was ordered held without bond pending indictment, and no bail credit was given. He will remain lodged until the weather improves and temperatures begin to rise throughout our region. It is unclear whether the defendant has an attorney at this time,” wrote Scott.
