Phillip Wheeler Wins State Senate Seat In Special Election

PIKEVILLE, Ky. (Appalachian News-Express) – The Appalachian News-Express has declared that Republican Phillip Wheeler has won the state senate seat vacated by Democrat Ray S. Jones.

Jones successfully ran for Pike County Judge-Executive. Republican Phillip Wheeler defeated Democrat Darrell Pugh in a special election.

The 31st district includes Martin, Lawrence, Pike, Morgan and Elliott counties.

“I am humbled to have the support of the voters of the 31^st Senate District,” Wheeler said. “I would like to thank Darrell Pugh for waging a hard-fought campaign. I am looking forward to fighting for the citizens of Eastern Kentucky and standing up for our values in Frankfort.”
