Phillip Wheeler Wins State Senate Seat In Special Election

PIKEVILLE, Ky. (Appalachian News-Express) – The Appalachian News-Express has declared that Republican Phillip Wheeler has won the state senate seat vacated by Democrat Ray S. Jones.

Jones successfully ran for Pike County Judge-Executive. Republican Phillip Wheeler defeated Democrat Darrell Pugh in a special election.

The 31st district includes Martin, Lawrence, Pike, Morgan and Elliott counties.

“I am humbled to have the support of the voters of the 31st Senate District,” Wheeler said. “I would like to thank Darrell Pugh for waging a hard-fought campaign. I am looking forward to fighting for the citizens of Eastern Kentucky and standing up for our values in Frankfort.”
