HAZARD, Ky. (LEX 18) — A search is intensifying for a Perry County man who may have fallen into floodwaters over the weekend.

Kentucky State Police tell LEX 18 that 53-year-old Danny Napier last was seen on Saturday.

His family is worried, fearing he may have fallen into floodwaters. That’s because his bicycle and other belongings were found near the north fork of the Kentucky River, which remains overflowing and dangerous.

Perry County’s emergency management director says the water level is dropping, but conditions are still challenging.

He said he was waiting Monday for boats better able to handle the swift currents.

“The river bank is in really poor condition right now because of all the mud,” said Lt. Greg Watt with the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Department. “It would be very easy for one of our, or anybody that’s involved in a search, to end up in the river, and then we would be in an additional rescue mode trying to recovery them.”

For now, firefighters and the Fish and Wildlife officers are doing ground searches looking for Napier.
