LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)– Lexington is readying plans for a new system that will allow people to text 9-1-1 for help.
The feature has been popping up around the country in recent months. It’s especially useful for the deaf and hard-of-hearing, and for people in situations where a phone call is dangerous or impossible.
On the downside, it’s harder to locate someone based on a text and there is a character limit on the messages.
A representative for the Lexington Mayor’s Office tells LEX 18 that the city is planning a full roll out in the future.
