CLARK COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)–  More than three months ago, a woman in Winchester was fatally attacked by a dog. Two weeks ago, her husband found out he would be facing charges in the November 2018 incident.

Christopher Collins stood before a judge Monday morning in Clark County. Police say that his wife, April, was fatally attacked by a dog that police have identified as a Pit Bull.

April’s family and friends tell LEX 18 that the dog had “violent tendencies.”

“She had gone and had her name taken off of the registration of the dog, and had his name put on it. So that she would not be liable if the dog hurt someone,” said Crystal Spurlock, a friend of April’s.

Collins was facing a second-degree Wanton Endangerment charge, but the County Attorney’s office upgraded that Monday morning. After reviewing the written citation, the Commonwealth decided to move to amend the charge to first-degree Wanton Endangerment.

The family and friends of April say that they are trying to cope with their tragic loss.

“I just know that because of him, she’s dead. If he would have left her alone, and let her get her life together, she would still be alive today,” said Spurlock.
