FRANKFORT, Ky. (LEX 18)- Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes has ruled that a candidate can’t use the nickname “Trump” on the ballot this year.

Grimes’ office issued the ruling on February 8. The ruling claims that Carl Nett adding the president’s name as his nickname to the ballot was an improper attempt to gain an advantage as he runs to replace Grimes as Kentucky’s Secretary of State.

Nett says he was an early supporter for President Trump, and that people gave him the nickname as an insult. Nett says he has turned it around, and now people often are shouting “Trump” whenever he enters the room.
