LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)– A fire blocked off Liberty Road between Liberty Elementary and the Fayette County Schools bus garage for hours Monday morning.

It happened around 2:30 a.m. at a home on Woodward Lane.

Officials say when firefighters arrived the house was engulfed. They were able to put the fire out in about an hour, but the house is a total loss.

We’re told the house is under remodel and the couple who owns the home were staying with a relative down the road at the time.

Crews say the challenge with fighting this fire was just getting water pumped to the house because there is not a fire hydrant very close.

“The distance between fire hydrants over here is little more than inside New Circle Road and that spacing is what gives us the issue with that,” said Battalion Chief Marc Bramlage. “Each truck only carries 1000 feet of supply line so we’ve had to put together multiple trucks to get our total amount of supply line from the north side of Liberty Road to the south side of the road and then another thousand plus feet up Woodward Court.”
