KENTON COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)– Friday’s basketball game between Covington Catholic High School and Holmes High School has been postponed. School officials say it’s due to last weekend’s incident in Washington, D.C.
A video posted to social media shows students from Covington Catholic High School and Nathan Phillips, a Native American elder, engaging in front of the Lincoln Memorial. The teens have since faced backlash for reportedly mocking Phillips. They deny the allegations.
Holmes High School posted the following statement on theirwebsite:
The Friday evening basketball game between Holmes High School and Covington Catholic High School has been canceled and will be played at a later date.
With passions running high relating to the incident in Washington, D.C. this past weekend, officials from both schools agreed that it would be best to postpone the game.
The teams are looking at their schedules to determine a new date.We will announce the date and time of the game as soon as it is determined.
Sandmann’s family has since hired a Georgia attorney known for libel and slander suits against media organizations.
