NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (LEX 18) -Jessamine County Schools are closed January 25 due to a flu outbreak.
Jessamine County Schools were also closed on the 24 for the outbreak.
According to Jessamine County Emergency Management officials, the decision was made to help slow the spread of the flu.
The school district will utilize two NTI days and the weekend to sanitize the school. All in-district extracurricular and after-school activities, including practices, will be cancelled as well, including JCS after school care and daycare. Athletic events on these dates are cancelled.
In addition to wiping down all surfaces, maintenance staff told LEX 18 that they are using a new Disinfecting Mister. Each set costs about 1,800 dollars and allows staff to clean each room in about 2-3 minutes. The new technology is recommended by the CDC and the district is excited to have them as an added layer for disinfecting.
Kentucky’s flu level is currently widespread.
