UPDATE: Inmate Back In Custody After Failing To Return From Work Release

UPDATE: Mitchell is back in custody and being held on a new charge of escape. 

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Authorities are looking for an inmate who left the Fayette County Detention Center on a work release and failed to return.

Official said 49-year-old Gregory Collins Mitchell was allowed to leave the jail at 6:15 a.m. Friday for a court-ordered work release. He was supposed to return at 5:30 p.m. Friday, but Mitchell never showed up.

On Jan. 10, Mitchell was sentenced to 45 days in jail on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and attempted evidence tampering.

Lexington police ask anyone with information on Mitchell’s whereabouts to call authorities.
