According to a post on Facebook, the fire started overnight and crews fought it for hours.

Church officials said the Tri-Community Fire Department and Lee/Beattyville Fire Department responded and were assisted by Bear Track and Primrose fire departments.

The officials said the building was a total loss and worship services were cancelled until further notice.

Beattyville Volunteer Fire Department officials said the cold weather made fighting the blaze tough, with hoses and gloves freezing over. We’re told the fire could possibly have started because of an electrical issue, but the exact cause is still under investigation.

“You’re in small-town, USA and you don’t have all the people to support the church. You know, you have big congregations and we don’t have that here and it’s very devastating,” said Chief Charles Booth with the Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Department.

The preacher said that they do have insurance and they are planning to rebuild. He is looking for a new place to worship saying that the church isn’t made of walls and a roof, but of people.
