LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — A man is in custody after an hours-long armed standoff in Lexington on Saturday night.

Javier Martinez Bohorquez

Authorities arrested 31-year-old Javier Martinez Bohorquez after negotiators were able to get him to leave the home peacefully.

Police responded about 8 p.m. to a home on Augusta Court after reports of shots being fired.

Authorities say Martinez Bohorquez became upset during an argument with family members and went outside and fired two shots.

He then went inside and barricaded himself inside the home. Authorities say a woman and several children escaped the home by climbing out a window.

“They were able to exit out themselves, so they got themselves out,” said Sgt. Donnell Gordon. “All the members were able to get out safely, and then also provide us with assistance on what was actually going on.”

Police said negotiators talked with Martinez Bohorquez for two hours and finally convinced him to surrender.

Authorities charged him with five counts of wanton endangerment.
