FLOYD COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — Transportation officials said Sunday morning that a key Floyd County roadway has been blocked by a mudslide for the second time in recent weeks.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says Kentucky Highway 1428 between Goble Roberts Bridge and Sugar Loaf is impassible due to a mudslide.
The same area saw a slide including many downed trees on Jan. 5.
Officials said the clearing operation this time is being delayed because the department’s trucks are loaded with salt to treat slick roadways.
The salt will have to be unloaded and plows removed before the trucks can be sent to haul off the debris.
Officials did not provide an estimate for when the roadway would be reopened but asked motorists to avoid the area for the time being.
