LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)– Officials are preparing for winter weather, but a local hardware store says it doesn’t appear residents are preparing.

The front window at Chevy Chase Hardware displays everything you could need for winter, but the owner says no one is buying.

“We’re actually hoping we get some snow and ice so we can boost sales a little bit,” said Chevy Chase Hardware co-owner Bill Edwards.

Even with snow in the forecast as early as overnight, Edwards said they’ve only sold a couple of shovels and sleds this week.

“We may get a little activity on their way home from work. We find that most people will wait until they might have a wreck getting here before they come after stuff,” he said.

He said that when it snows on the weekend, a lot of people just choose to stay home and ride it out. He said it’s been that way over the last few years.

“The problem is it was like an inch and that was gone that afternoon and we need… to sell what we want to sell, we’d like to see 2, 3, 4, 5 inches that doesn’t go away the next day,” said Edwards.

He says that whether it snows or not, it never hurts to be prepared.

“Go ahead and buy it, it won’t go bad,” said Edwards.
