LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – A white man accused of killing two black people at a Louisville grocery store pleaded not guilty Monday to federal hate crime charges.

WAVE reports that Gregory Bush, 51, entered the plea in the October shooting deaths of Maurice Stallard and Vickie Lee Jones.

Bush previously pleaded not guilty to state charges.

A witness said he confronted Bush during the shootings and said the man told him “whites don’t kill whites.”

Bush also allegedly was seen shortly before the shooting trying to break into a nearby church whose congregation is predominantly black.
