WARREN COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)– Kentucky’s current longest-serving sheriff is hanging up his badge.

Around 50 people packed inside the Warren County Fiscal Court on Thursday for a retirement party for Jerry “Peanuts” Gaines.

Friends and former colleagues refer to Gaines as a genuine “people person” and a man who truly enjoyed serving the public.

Gaines served as sheriff for 40 years.

He officially leaves office at midnight on Jan. 1.
