Holiday Waste Collections, Closings

LEXINGTON, Ky(LEX 18) — Lexington’s Division of Waste Management will adjust its collection schedule for the upcoming Christmas and New Year’s Day holidays.  Residents and businesses whose regular curbside waste collection day falls on a holiday will be serviced on Wednesday instead. Monday and Tuesday customers will be serviced the Wednesday following the holiday.

Those impacted by the holiday collection schedule should place their carts out on Tuesday after 4 p.m. to ensure collection on their Wednesday makeup day.

Holiday: No Collection: Makeup Day:
Christmas Eve Monday, Dec. 24 Wednesday,  Dec. 26
Christmas Tuesday, Dec. 25 Wednesday,  Dec. 26
New Year’s Day Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019 Wednesday,  Jan. 2, 2019

OTHER HOLIDAY CLOSINGS: Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government offices will be closed on each of the holidays listed above.  The City’s Recycling Center, Electronics Recycling Center, and Haley Pike Waste Management Facility will be closed on those days as well as on the Saturdays of those holiday weekends (Dec. 22 and Dec. 29).

YARD WASTE COLLECTIONS: Waste Management will suspend yard waste collections December 24 through December 28. Yard waste collections will resume on Monday, Dec. 31.

DISCARDED CHRISTMAS TREES: The city will begin picking up discarded cut Christmas trees on Monday, Dec. 31, and will continue to pick them up through Friday, Jan. 25. Residents wishing to recycle an artificial tree can take it to the Habitat for Humanity ReStore on Southland Drive or the one on Winchester Road.
