WINCHESTER, Ky. (LEX 18) — A family lost their home and a pet dog Tuesday morning in a home fire in Clark County.

The call came in about 11:30 a.m. to a home on Holly Avenue in Winchester.

Crews saw heavy smoke and a car in the driveway, which led them to believe someone was home. Thankfully, no one was inside at the time, but a family pet was killed.

“Of course there was a vehicle in the driveway, which led us to believe to believe that someone was entrapped,” said Battalion Chief Christopher Whiteley. “Come to find out first floor and second floor were clear of any occupants. One animal, one pet, did perish in the fire.”

The cause of the fire is still being investigated. The structure suffered significant damage to the back of the house.
