LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE 3)– The Louisville Metro Police Department is reviewing an incident involving use of force by officers.

It happened Sunday afternoon in the 2700 block of W. Broadway.

Video from the incident appears to show several LMPD officers using force against a man at the location, a grocery store between 26th and 28th Streets on W. Broadway.

In the video, officers wrestle the man from the driver’s seat of a black SUV to the ground, where it appears an officer punches him. Officers then handcuff the man on the pavement.

It is not known what led up to the incident or what happened that is not seen in the videos.

Police are in the process of collecting all body camera footage from officers who were present, LMPD spokesperson Dwight Mitchell said in a statement.

Fraternal Order of Police President Nicolai Jilek saw the clip and said just based on viewing the video, it appears that the suspect reaches for his waistband–a common place to carry a deadly weapon. When he is on the ground, Jilek said, his hand also appears to be by his waistband.

Jilek said that is a very dangerous scenario and officers are trained to get the suspect’s hands under control immediately, even by use of force.
